Capybara Is Friends with Everyone

Capybara begins each day with a bullhorn and an offer to assist any of his 4,382 pals. He's determined to be the absolute best friend to everyone, helping them with their chores. After, stunningly, he comes across a stranger he hasn't yet befriended, Capybara promptly serenades the unfamiliar sloth with a "new friend" song. When the sloth registers no reaction, nervous Capybara despairs that there must be something wrong with him, but the sloth finally descends from the tree and reveals that he was never reluctant, just naturally slower. A reassured Capybara realizes that perhaps he doesn't need to work quite so hard for his friendships and that his friends love him no matter what. It's a truly funny story, with an adorably anxious protagonist in Capybara, but it also manages to pack in some big messages about friendships and boundaries beyond the surface goofiness. The bright, cartoonish illustrations work in exuberant reactions and fun formatting, and Capybara's dramatic expressions are priceless. A delightfully silly story with a sweet heart.
